Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) accepts the 24-hour visa-free transit for almost any nationality with a confirmed onward flight to a third country. For passport holders from 55 eligible countries (US, UK, Canada, most of Europe, Australia, and others), the 240-hour transit policy allows up to 10 days in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The 240-hour policy replaced the older 144-hour version on December 17, 2024.

Three contact channels work in parallel. Call the airline first — ground staff handle transit-passenger holds and can liaise with the immigration officer who is processing the case. Call the airport's 24-hour passenger service line (English option available) and ask to be transferred to the Border Inspection desk. Call your country's consulate in Guangzhou and request consular assistance for distressed citizens; the consulate can advocate but cannot override an immigration decision.
