3-Day Zhangjiajie Itinerary: Tickets, Cable Cars, and Queue Strategy (2026)

Split the three days clearly: Day 1 at Tianmen Mountain 天门山 in the city, Days 2 and 3 inside Wulingyuan 武陵源 (Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, 张家界国家森林公园). The two parks are 40 minutes apart and have separate tickets, so mixing them on one day costs hours of backtracking.

Tianmen tickets cost 285 yuan and bundle the cable car, escalator, shuttle, and Skywalk. Pick Route A first if the cable car is running; renovation since November 2025 has reshuffled Routes A and B, while Route C still works as before. Wulingyuan entry is 228 yuan and stays valid four consecutive days; Bailong Elevator is 65 yuan one way and Tianzi Mountain cable car is a separate ticket. Reservation has been mandatory since June 2025 — book the day before through the 张家界一票通 mini-program inside WeChat or via Trip.com. Both parks check your physical passport at the gate.

Go to Tianmen first only if the forecast is clear; fog routinely flattens the view above 1,500 m. Sleep inside Wulingyuan town, not Zhangjiajie city, so you can walk to the gate at 7 am before the buses arrive. Bring grippy shoes — total walking on Day 2 alone runs 8 to 12 km. Avoid the National Day week (1 to 7 October) and Spring Festival; daily caps fill by 9 am. Macaques near Yuanjiajie steal anything zipped loosely into a pocket.
