• Zhangjiajie West Station (张家界西站): the newer high-speed rail station, opened in 2019. This is where you want to arrive from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Changsha via high-speed rail. Most HSR services terminate here

• Zhangjiajie Station (张家界站): the old conventional rail station in the city center. Some slower long-distance trains still stop here. It's conveniently close to the Tianmen Mountain cable car base, but not the main HSR station

Nights 1-2: Wulingyuan Village

Stay in Wulingyuan village (the town next to the Forest Park entrance). You can walk to the park gate in the morning. Hotels range from budget guesthouses (~¥200-¥300) to mid-range (¥400-¥700) to a few higher-end options near the park gate.

Night 3: Zhangjiajie City Center

Move to Zhangjiajie city on your Grand Canyon / Glass Bridge day. Book a hotel near the Tianmen Mountain cable car base or near Zhangjiajie Station. This positions you to walk to the Tianmen cable car in the morning. Similar hotel price ranges.

What not to do

Staying in Zhangjiajie city for all 4 nights forces you to commute 45-60 minutes each way to the Forest Park twice. You'll lose 3-4 hours over two days just in transit. Not worth the cost saving.

Best Season to Visit

• April-May: spring, comfortable temperatures, azaleas blooming. Sometimes foggy, which can be atmospheric or can block views

• June-August: summer peak, hot and humid, crowds peak. Strong thunderstorm risk in afternoons

• September-October: autumn, best weather of the year, clear skies, pleasant temperatures. This is the best season to go but also the most crowded during the October 1-7 Golden Week holiday
