Is the Chengdu SKP Bamboo Tower Worth a Visit in 2026?

Worth a 30-minute detour after dark, not a half-day stop. The Tower of Vitality 生机之塔 (locally called the bamboo tower or bamboo fountain) sits above Chengdu SKP mall at Jincheng Plaza, with six water columns reaching 26–39 m. Entry to the outdoor plaza is free and the structure is open 24/7, but the lit water-and-light show only fires up after sunset, roughly 19:00 in summer and 18:00 in winter, repeating every 4–5 minutes.

The fastest way in is Metro Line 18 to Jincheng Plaza East 锦城广场东 station, Exit B, or Line 1 to Jincheng Plaza station, Exit D. Standard fare is ¥4–6 from downtown. Pay with Alipay or WeChat Pay using the Tianfu Tong metro mini-program. Plan around 30 minutes for photos plus 20 minutes inside the underground SKP food court for dinner. Weekends and holidays bring a steady stream of local influencers staging shoots; weekday evenings are calmer.

As an attraction it is purely visual. There is no historical narrative, no exhibition, and no signage in English. If you have only one free evening in Chengdu, the Panda Base, Wuhou Shrine, or Jinli Street offer more depth. If you are already heading south for the high-speed train at South Railway Station, the bamboo tower is a 5-minute metro hop on the same line and pairs well with hotpot in the area.
